About The Position

Join a fast-paced, mission-driven Emergency Department where your advanced clinical skills, quick judgment, and patient-centered approach make an immediate impact. As a Paramedic in the Adult ED, you will be a core member of a collaborative care team, delivering high-quality emergency treatment across the lifespan—neonatal through geriatric—in alignment with NCCEP protocols and N.C. Office of EMS standards. Essential Functions Provide patient- and family-centered emergency care, including rapid evaluation and intervention for life‑threatening conditions. Implement prescribed therapies within scope of practice and collaborate with nursing and medical colleagues to achieve care goals. Maintain a safe, therapeutic environment by ensuring privacy, professionalism, and appropriate use of technology and equipment. Communicate clearly and effectively within the healthcare team to support care continuity. Participate in professional practice activities such as shared governance, peer review, and ongoing development. Advocate for patients across all settings, ensuring needs are met with compassion and urgency. Identify clinical priorities and act decisively to improve patient outcomes. Administer medications, treatments, and protocols under physician orders and within NCOEMS-defined scope. Perform and maintain competency in point-of-care testing according to policy and regulatory standards. Document assessments, treatments, medications, and reassessments accurately in the Electronic Medical Record. Demonstrate strong teamwork and contribute to evidence‑based practice, research, and quality improvement efforts. Support patient flow, safety, and departmental operations within the Emergency Department.

Requirements

  • Paramedic certification from an accredited program OR Associate of Applied Science (A.A.S.) in Paramedic Studies or equivalent.
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS)
  • NC-OEMS certification as EMT‑P
  • Within one year (as applicable): Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) or Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
  • Ability to deliver both direct and indirect patient care across all developmental stages.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to build rapport with patients, families, providers, and hospital staff.
  • Competency using patient care equipment, stretchers, wheelchairs, and assistive devices.
  • Capability to lift, position, and transfer patients of varying sizes safely.
  • Proficiency with electronic documentation systems.
  • Ability to perform duties in compliance with state and federal laws, local ordinances, and established protocols.

Nice To Haves

  • Three years of Emergency Services experience preferred.
  • Critical care certificate
  • National Registry Paramedic certification
  • Must maintain certification through an approved NC‑OEMS education provider.
