About the position

Leidos is looking for a Paralegal to join our Greenbelt, Maryland team supporting the United States Attorney’s Office (USAO) for the District of Maryland. The position involves providing litigative case management and organizing cases for court presentation by preparing and organizing exhibits containing a variety of visual material, e.g., statistical charts and photographs. The paralegal will serve as the contact person for assigned cases, providing information and assistance concerning status or relevant procedural issues. Responsibilities include arranging travel, preparing travel authorization and vouchers, producing legal documents, assisting in preparing trial exhibits, performing administrative duties in support of assigned AUSAs, and maintaining case files. The pay for this position will be $25.58/hr.

Responsibilities

  • Provides litigative case management and organizes cases for court presentation.
  • Prepares and organizes exhibits containing a variety of visual material.
  • Serves as contact person for assigned cases and provides information and assistance.
  • Arranges travel by preparing itinerary and securing transportation and hotel reservations.
  • Prepares travel authorization and vouchers for traveler signature and Government approval.
  • Produces and provides legal documents, information, exhibits, or witnesses during court proceedings.
  • Assists in preparing exhibits for trial, ensuring timely production prior to the trial date.
  • Performs a variety of administrative duties in support of assigned AUSAs.
  • Uses established databases for data searches, report design, and data retrieval assignments.
  • Opens, maintains, and closes case files, notifying the proper client agency of service.
  • Establishes and updates database to track receipt of cases and upcoming deadlines.
  • Keeps attorneys and staff informed of the status of cases.
  • Monitors the progress of pending cases and initiates action to meet deadlines.
  • Physically maintains case files and related material in an accessible filing system.
  • Closes case files in a timely manner and purges unnecessary documents.
  • Examines, prepares, and processes a variety of legal documents.
  • Maintains AUSAs and court calendars, schedules court reporters, witnesses, and conferences.

Requirements

  • Requires a paralegal certificate, JD, or currently attending an ABA-accredited law school with at least one year of study.
  • At least one year of litigation paralegal experience required.
  • Excellent written and communication skills.
  • Basic legal knowledge, including knowledge of standard legal citation.
  • Experience with legal research tools such as LEXIS and Westlaw.
  • Thorough knowledge and hands-on familiarity with a variety of computer applications.
  • Basic familiarity with ESI tools and knowledge of eDiscovery procedures.
  • Ability to consistently deliver highest quality work under extreme pressure.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen and able to obtain a Public Trust clearance.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience working in a Government and/or Litigation Support environment.
  • Strong analytic, organizational, and writing skills.
  • Paralegal certificate or JD.
  • At least one year of litigation paralegal experience.
