About The Position

General Summary: The Paralegal in the Crimes Against Children Division provides legal support to prosecutors within the division. This role includes assisting with case management, preparing and reviewing legal documents, and supporting attorneys in hearing and trials. The paralegal works collaboratively with prosecutors and staff, to ensure the efficient handling of cases. Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and professionalism are essential for success in this position. Duties & Responsibilities: Paralegals are responsible for obtaining all evidence related to investigations once received and ensuring it is uploaded into the paperless storage system. They assist during any witness or complainant interviews and assist the prosecutor in preparation for trial. They draft motions and subpoenas in preparation for trial, and assist with coordinating witnesses at trial. They act as a liaison between the prosecutors and the public as well as various law enforcement and investigative agencies. Paralegals are responsible for filling in for administrative assistants when required and training academic interns. The paralegals are also responsible for copying discovery and scanning/uploading hardcopy documents to the virtual file. Paralegals work under the supervision of assigned Prosecutor(s) and the Division Chief of the Division.

Requirements

  • Ability to effectively determine issues related to criminal law.
  • Legal research and writing skills.
  • Ability to effectively prioritize tasks.
  • Proficient with computer programs Word, Adobe, PowerPoint and Excel.
  • Ability to review, organize, and document social media evidence and search warrant returns.
  • Associates Degree in Paralegal Studies or a paralegal certificate.

Responsibilities
