About The Position

- Lead legal support for workforce reduction (RIF): draft/review separation agreements, severance packages, termination letters, and related notices; ensure compliance with employment laws and applicable WARN requirements. - Review, draft, and negotiate contracts (vendor/partner agreements, grant terms, MOUs, service contracts) with clear risk controls on confidentiality, data privacy, IP, and indemnity. - Manage matter intake and inquiries from HR, managers, employees, union representatives, and external counsel; track deadlines, escalate risks, and maintain organized case files. - Maintain audit-ready records (privileged files, litigation holds, board minutes/resolutions), and generate reports to support audits, funder reviews, and compliance assessments. - Support policy updates and training (handbook, RIF procedures, document retention) and improve templates/playbooks to standardize workflows across the organization.

Requirements

  • Experience coordinating WARN-related notices and liaising with state agencies; familiarity with union/CBA processes is a plus.
  • Comfort managing privileged communications and coordinating with outside counsel on sensitive matters.
  • Nonprofit-specific knowledge: charitable registrations, grant conditions, donor restrictions, and board governance practices.
  • Tools proficiency: CLM platforms, DMS, e-signature (e.g., DocuSign/Adobe Sign), and Excel/BI for tracking and reporting.
  • Ability to educate non-legal stakeholders—convert legalese into concise training, FAQs, and step-by-step guidance.
