About The Position

We are pleased to announce an exciting opening for a Legal Assistant/Paralegal within our Risk Management group. This position involves performing a variety of legal and administrative duties to provide essential support to Stantec’s Risk Management team.

Requirements

  • Competent in Microsoft Word, Excel, Teams, SharePoint and Power Point applications.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Motivated self-starter who takes initiative and is willing to take on tasks as needed.
  • Efficient, organized, high attention to detail, meticulous records maintenance skills.
  • Professional and capable of handling confidential matters.
  • Ability to follow instructions, prioritize tasks with minimal supervision, and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Willingness to learn and a positive attitude are critical.
  • Flexibility to work with others across various time zones across North America and occasionally the UK and Asia-Pacific regions.
  • Work in a hybrid work from home and office environment.
  • With high school diploma or equivalent, a minimum of five years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and related experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Paralegal diploma/degree from an accredited institution is an asset.
  • Commercial litigation experience; Complex commercial litigation within the architecture/engineering industry and construction industry is a plus.
  • Experience with discovery and e-discovery principles and practice throughout various stages of discovery; Exterro and Purview applications is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Assist Corporate Counsel in claim reviews, factual investigations, documentation, and reporting.
  • Implement and manage document holds, record collections and productions for litigation and third party subpoenas.
  • Draft legal documents including contract documents according to Stantec policies, preparing letters, and responses to freedom of information requests.
  • Perform privilege reviews on records prior to disclosure.
  • Reviewing requests for proposals and contracts for legal risk and Stantec policy perspectives: Review and analyze contract exceptions and modifications submitted by Stantec's clients and subconsultants.
  • Work with our Corporate Integrity team on updating and maintaining policies and records.
  • Schedule meetings, prepare meeting minutes, prepare expense reports, and code invoices as required by Corporate Counsel.
  • File management, including maintaining and updating legal databases.
  • Prepare, draft and file various correspondence, documents and government submittals.
  • Assist with preparation of legal education and resources.
  • Perform general administrative functions as required.
