About The Position

To provide litigation support for units within the criminal division of the District Attorney’s Office, principally relating to the management and processing of digital criminal discovery in criminal cases. The management and processing of criminal discovery is a statutory requirement in the code of criminal procedure.

Requirements

  • Must be a current resident of the United States
  • Associate Degree in Paralegal Studies or a Paralegal Certificate and three (3) years of experience working in a legal environment.
  • Any Bachelor Degree and three (3) years of experience working in a legal environment
  • Current Notary or eligible to obtain Notary during employment
  • Knowledge of Wisconsin statutes and case law; knowledge of, including legal requirements and procedures for filing petitions and other pleadings; knowledge of legal research methods; interviewing skills; analytical skills; organizational skills; ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing, and to prepare thorough, accurate, and grammatically correct reports; proficiency in word processing, database and spreadsheet applications, especially Microsoft Word and Excel; ability to plan, assign, and coordinate work on complex tasks, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team on complex tasks; ability to perform various functions in the CCAP, computer system; ability to maintain confidentiality and discretion with cases.
  • The ability to lift, carry, push and pull up to 20Lbs.
  • Appointee must establish Wisconsin State residency within six (6) months of appointment and maintain such residency during incumbency.

Responsibilities

  • Review digital Discovery (e.g., reports, recordings, video) for completeness.
  • Order reports and/or files missing from Discovery materials and confirm receipt of missing reports or files once requested.
  • Update PROTECT case management system to document discovery process.
  • Review requests for specific discovery issues in criminal cases in anticipation of trial.
  • Respond to requests by identifying and requesting materials from law enforcement agencies, once received distribute digital discovery via electronic sharing methods or physical copies.
  • Perform various trial-support related tasks for prosecutors such as ordering certified copies of business, medical and court records, redacting medical records and reports, and creating digital exhibits for trials
