SUMMARY Lead strategic and tactical corporate legal initiatives; maintain case files of new and existing complaints; perform legal research; index and track documents in discovery and otherwise. Responsible for gathering, preparing and summarizing relevant materials for use by attorneys and other legal counsel. Responsible for complex calendar management, court appearances and regulatory briefings. Must be able to prioritize, and be extremely responsive, all while maintaining excellent relationships with internal and external clients.

Requirements

  • Paralegal - 2 Years in a corporate or law firm environment working as an independent paralegal (Required).
  • Paralegal Sr - 5 Years in a corporate or law firm environment working as an independent paralegal (Required).
  • Paralegal Staff - 8 Years in a corporate or law firm environment working as an independent paralegal (Required).
  • Excellent analytical skills and understanding in both problem-solving and research and ability to interpret and report findings.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, PowerPoint, Excel, and Westlaw
  • Ability to plan, organize, provide leadership and direction to a team. Ability to work with various levels of personnel and communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to interact with people at all levels of the corporate structure, prioritize and handle numerous competing demands in a high-volume, fast-paced working environment
  • Proven ability to work effectively in independent settings
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a variety of contacts including outside attorneys, senior management, and business associates
  • Excellent at multi-tasking.
  • Anticipate support needs of attorneys across a variety of corporate legal matters
  • Manage various legal department projects and initiatives
  • Ability to work independently
  • Identify and resolve or escalate issues in a timely manner
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Nice To Haves

  • Associates degree preferably in paralegal studies, communication, or English (Preferred).
  • Without a degree, 5 years as a paralegal within the corporate environment or law firm may be considered.
  • National Federation of Paralegal Associations (NFPA), National Associations of Legal Assistants (NALA), or National Association for Legal Support (NALS) or another certification entity of Paralegal Professionals (Preferred)

Responsibilities

  • Calendar and Schedule appointments as necessary
  • Manage cases and legal matters by coordinating activities between outside counsel and Company employees
  • Respond to discovery requests
  • Implement legal holds and collect and maintain relevant documents
  • Participate in mediations
  • Assist attorney(s) with legal preparation and organization of documents
  • Complete investigations and fact-finding for cases
  • Draft position statements for EEO claims under direction of General Counsel
  • Identify relevant legal articles, laws and judicial decisions for cases
  • Assist and maintain corporate records
  • Will be responsible for reviewing and drafting agreements, facilitate business transactions, and assist with managing and ensuring compliance of STPNOC in general and other duties as assigned
  • Provide administrative support for attorney(s)
  • Participate in the definition and administrative development of corporate policies, procedures and programs
  • Conduct legal research and drafting as requested
  • Successfully complete special projects and other assignments as requested
  • Accept ERO position as needed.
  • Accept outage position as needed.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain unescorted access if needed.
  • Successfully complete General Employee Training (GET) as required for position.
