About The Position

Position Purpose: Under minimal supervision, the Paralegal is responsible for performing substantive legal work that requires extensive knowledge of legal concepts. Responsibilities/Duties/Functions/Tasks: Perform legal research by examining all references in briefs and other memoranda. Research methods of acquiring further evidence including affidavit or interrogatories, further hearings, or various other means of communication with sources of record and exercises judgment and knowledge of laws of states and tribes to determine if information obtained is relevant for documentary evidence. Responsible for case management and a monthly billing quota. Responds to employee’s questions regarding unusual, complex, or technical work-related matters. Assists attorneys with management of complex case files and pleadings. Drafts and/or dictates legal briefs, pleadings, correspondence, affidavits, and other legal documents. Attends depositions and hearings and reviews transcripts, as required. Reviews files, mail and complex legal documents to gather information and locate missing or incomplete records. Contacts clients, debtors, attorneys and courts for resolution of outstanding issues, further instructions, status updates, and additional information and documentation. Negotiates settlements and sale or return of assets/collateral for attorney/client approval. Oversees the preparation and assembly of evidence exhibits and other materials used in legal proceedings. Monitors client billings and prepares billing statements. Coordinates the service of subpoenas, notice of depositions, and other legal documents to witnesses and parties to action. Forwards accounts to out of town counsel and serves as liaison between client and attorney. Arranges for payment of court costs, local counsel fees, publications costs, etc Maintains current knowledge of legal procedures, deadlines and procedures for appropriate documents. Complete all required training applicable to this position Regular and predictable attendance is an essential function of this position Other duties, as assigned

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree or Certification in Paralegal Studies required.
  • 6 years relevant legal experience.
  • Must be able to type a minimum of 50 words per minute with accuracy.
  • Extensive knowledge of office practices and procedures; computer operation; word processing software; internet research; and extensive knowledge of relevant laws, legal/court procedures, and legal terminology.
  • Professional demeanor with clients and co-workers.
  • Advanced oral and written communication skills.
  • Sense of urgency to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to research, analyze and problem-solve.
  • Strong attention to detail and excellent organizational skills.
