About The Position

This Paralegal Specialist provides high-level paralegal services to the legal unit.

Requirements

  • Must be a current resident of the State of Wisconsin
  • An Associate Degree or Paralegal Certificate from an accredited College/Technical College and at least 2 years of experience working in a legal environment.
  • High School Diploma and five (5) or more years of experience working in a legal environment may substitute for associate degree/paralegal certificate and any Bachelor’s, Masters or law degree does not need experience to qualify.
  • Knowledge of all related computer and software applications, such as word processing and spreadsheets
  • This position encompasses a high-level of case management capabilities, including exceptional time-management and communication skills.
  • Candidates must have the ability to work independently, develop in-depth knowledge of Child Support Program laws and policies and apply that knowledge to a wide range of situations to assist in improving departmental performance.
  • This position also requires excellent critical thinking skills and superior judgment.
  • The ability to Lift/Carry and Push/Pull up to 10Lbs.

Responsibilities

  • Analyzes requests for changes of venue and works with other county and tribal agencies to process requests.
  • Analyzes, responds, and processes required changes to vital records.
  • Processes court-ordered warrant and commitments and assists in clearing them when appropriate.
  • Conducts legal research, drafts motions, orders or correspondence and utilizes various databases and other investigatory tools to locate information needed to process cases.
  • Participates in case conferences with participants under the direction of an attorney.
  • Researches and resolves complex case issues raised by participants, courts or other departments.
  • Advises management regarding performance ramifications related to such cases.
  • Under the general direction of the Legal Counsel Administrator and Legal Counsel Assistant Administrator, plan department-wide initiatives on an as-needed bases.
  • Research relevant laws, policies, practices and develop appropriate training materials as required.
  • Provide back-up coverage for other paralegals and members of the stats team.
  • Perform other job duties as may be assigned.
