Purpose: Athene is seeking a legal professional to join its Legal Department, partnering closely with Operations, Sales, and Compliance to support a diverse portfolio of annuity and structured settlement products. This role offers meaningful exposure to complex, high-impact legal work at the intersection of insurance, finance, and regulation. You will play a key role in advising on day-to-day business operations, including new business processing, contract administration, claims, and structured settlement transactions. The position requires analyzing legal and regulatory requirements, reviewing and interpreting complex documentation, and providing clear, practical guidance to attorneys and business stakeholders. This is a fast-paced role suited for someone who thrives on managing high-volume, time-sensitive matters with precision. Strong analytical skills, sound legal judgment, and the ability to collaborate effectively across teams are essential to success.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree, associate degree, paralegal certification, or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience, along with 3+ years of relevant legal or paralegal experience.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to independently manage competing priorities, collaborate across legal and business teams, and effectively communicate complex legal concepts to diverse stakeholders.
  • Proficiency with legal and business technology, including databases and internal systems.
  • Strong legal research and analytical skills, with the ability to interpret legal decisions, evaluate contracts and court documents, and synthesize complex information into timely, well-reasoned recommendations.
  • Experience conducting research and analysis in response to complex or sensitive legal inquiries.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple matters efficiently and accurately.

Responsibilities

  • Review, investigate, and respond to legal inquiries and referrals from Operations, Sales, Compliance, Product Development, and other business units.
  • Conduct legal research and analyze statutory, regulatory, and contractual requirements; synthesize findings into clear, actionable guidance.
  • Review and assess structured settlement documentation to ensure compliance with Internal Revenue Code requirements.
  • Interpret legal decisions and evaluate a range of legal and business documents, including contracts, court orders, and correspondence.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to provide guidance on legal issues impacting annuity products and related operations.
  • Support process improvements and the development of best practices to enhance efficiency and risk mitigation.
  • Maintain and update legal reference resources, including 50-state regulatory surveys.
  • Manage a high volume of matters with accuracy, efficiency, and strong attention to detail.
  • Build and maintain effective working relationships across business and legal teams.
