About The Position

Responsible for planning, executing and overseeing a variety of corporate and legal projects as an integral member the Health Plan and Network Services Team. Provides infrastructure and support by proactively assisting internal and external counsel and executive management in specific areas of responsibility. Collaborates with team members related to changes in federal and state laws and the organization's policies and procedures. Although subject to oversight by an attorney, the incumbent works very independently — providing knowledge and consultation to management relating to corporate and transactional documents, policy review, legal research, subpoena response review, legislation and regulatory tracking, and board governance; and drafts, reviews and/or proofreads complex contracts, regulatory filings, and other documents. The incumbent has strong attention to detail, thinks strategically, manages multiple projects, leads by example and builds relationships across the organization to encourage a collaborative work environment. This is a hybrid role and candidate must come on site 2-3 days a week for work. This is NOT a remote role and candidate should live a commutable distance to the River Plaza office in Sacramento.

Requirements

  • Associate's in Paralegal studies or one of the certifications listed below
  • PACC-Paralegal Advanced Competency Certification OR CP-Certified Paralegal OR Certified Legal Professional (CLP) (Administered by Natl Assn for Legal Professional - NALS) OR Professional Paralegal (Administered by NALS) OR APC - Advanced Paralegal Certification
  • 4 years of recent relevant experience.
  • Detail oriented, self-directed and works with minimal supervision, both independently and in teams.
  • Adapts quickly to changing conditions, assimilating new processes into job functions and taking ownership.
  • Verbal, written and presentation skills, including the ability to translate complex legal and regulatory requirements/issues into terms readily understood by all levels of employees and corporate executives.
  • Exceptional organizational skills and the ability to balance numerous priorities at a given time with minimal supervision.
  • Must be able to reason logically, analyze situations accurately and recommend courses of action.
  • Ability to organize, plan and coordinate work flow, and to work effectively with colleagues to achieve success with objectives.
  • Ability to reprioritize effectively among diverse clients, high-risk events or projects and have high attention to detail and the ability to analyze complex fact scenarios quickly.
  • Ability to diplomatically investigate sensitive facts and detailed procedures.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive material, including protected health information, executives’ personally identifiable information, payroll information, legal documents and other corporate data and exercise good judgment as it relates to handling of sensitive material.
  • Ability to effectively conduct manual and computer assisted legal research.
  • Ability to conduct document review and analysis.
  • Interpersonal, negotiation and analytical skills to effectively resolve issues and influence others.
  • Knowledge of basic legal concepts; legal terminology, principles and procedures.
  • Knowledge of Outlook, Microsoft Word, PowerPoint & Excel.
  • Knowledge of California and federal laws and regulations related to healthcare organizations.
