Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Four years of relevant experience
  • Five years of related experience in a law firm or in-house legal department as an officially designated paralegal (preferred)
  • Experience in conducting investigations (preferred)
  • JD (preferred)
  • Knowledge of trauma-informed best practices (preferred)

Responsibilities

  • Assist in processing and tracking legal matters of various kinds
  • Support the Office of Legal Counsel by responding to Freedom of Information Law (FOIL) requests
  • Help track and comply with statutory deadlines
  • Analyze and compile responsive records for FOIL requests
  • Ensure that FOIL responses are appropriately identified, redacted, and disclosed in a timely manner
  • Save responsive records in an online accessible filing system for internal review and external production
  • Respond to routine subpoenas for institutional records
  • Review and respond to authorization for Human Resources record and student record requests
  • Organize and maintain case or matter files and related documentation
  • Assist in preparing arbitrations, litigation, hearings, and other proceedings
  • Perform research and writing activities
  • Prepare opinions, reports, and drafts of research activities using tools such as LexisNexis Uni and Westlaw
  • Maintain the security of highly confidential information as per College and University policies
  • Assist with processing of contracts, affiliation agreements, litigation records, and subpoena files
  • Compile and analyze legal data pertinent to cases and prepare summaries
  • Assist Legal Counsel in the development and operation of file management systems
  • Research, gather, and compile case data; study provisions and nuances of contracts and laws
  • Provide outreach on behalf of the Office of Legal Counsel to faculty, staff, and students
  • Conduct initial intake screening of matters related to discrimination, harassment, and misconduct
  • Draft summaries of interviews related to intakes or reports
  • Assist with scheduling and calendaring for all office staff
  • Record all information pertaining to intakes and investigations
  • Prepare monthly/quarterly/annual statistical and narrative reports
  • Provide support with trainings, investigations, and programming
  • Assist with various daily administrative duties in support of the office/team.
