About The Position

Our firm seeks a highly motivated Paralegal Clerk to support our preeminent Supreme Court and Appellate practice in our Washington, D.C. office. The Paralegal Clerk will provide pivotal paralegal support by working closely with the Appellate Practice Manager and Appellate Specialist within the fast-paced and quickly evolving environment of the practice’s day-to-day caseload. The ideal candidate will demonstrate initiative and a willingness to learn, possess strong attention to detail, along with the ability to exercise sound judgment and be collaborative and team-oriented. They will also be expected to be adaptable and have strong communication skills as they will work closely alongside attorneys and other key stakeholders. The position’s primary job responsibilities include: Cite check briefs and motions drafted by Appellate Practice attorneys for stylistic and substantive accuracy. Prepare PDFs of appellate documents, including voluminous joint appendices. Prepare tables of contents and tables of authorities. Proofread documents drafted by Appellate Practice attorneys. Electronically file briefs in courts and oversee preparation and service of necessary printed copies. Prepare certain routine or procedural motions and documents. Coordinate with Clerk’s Offices as requested by Appellate Practice attorneys. Maintain confidentiality of client information. This position has a billable requirement of 1,650 hours per year. Participate in the firm’s Global Responsible Business program. Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Excellent attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
  • Advanced writing and analytical skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong interest in learning about the U.S. appellate courts and their workings.
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment with or without direct supervision and coordinate multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Professional demeanor and a strong work ethic.
  • Proven ability to maintain the utmost confidentiality in highly sensitive matters.
  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • One (1)+ year of professional work experience preferred or comparable internship experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree required or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
