Position Purpose Under occasional supervision, assist Claim Counsel team with various litigation and claim related matters. Perform substantive legal tasks in support of Claim Counsel's role of providing legal advice to the Claim Department.

Requirements

  • Typically requires an associate’s degree in a related field or paralegal certificate
  • 3+ years of insurance litigation defense or insurance company related experience
  • Ability to generate innovative solutions related to Claim Counsel’s functions.
  • Experienced in reviewing draft pleadings and preparing discovery responses.
  • Proficient in conducting legal research.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and efficiently in a time sensitive environment.
  • High level of attention to detail, prioritization and self-management.
  • Ability to use software and other tools to summarize and analyze data.

Responsibilities

  • Review draft pleadings, discovery responses and document production in coordination with Claim Counsel and outside coverage counsel.
  • Gather and review documents responsive to subpoenas and prepare response.
  • Draft responses to civil remedy notices and other notices to the company relating to claim adjusting.
  • Review file documents and prepare outlines.
  • Perform legal research and gather publicly available information as needed.
  • Prepare memoranda and summaries of research, noteworthy court decisions and analyses of various matters.
  • Assist with preparing, updating and maintaining various internal reports.
  • Work with Claim Counsel on selecting and communicating with outside coverage counsel and maintain coverage counsel panel list.
  • Assist in other projects as needed.
