About The Position

CLS is hiring two paralegal supervisors to manage the Denver front desk intake specialists and CSI paralegals. One manager will supervise the front desk intake staff and a team of paralegals. The other manager will supervise CSI paralegals and will perform a variety of administrative tasks. Both of these positions are management positions in CLS’s Denver Office and require being in-person and on-site Monday through Friday to provide oversight and support to staff. Both managers will be responsible for developing and maintaining systems for effective communication, managing quality control during the applicant intake process, and working together as a team to provide oversight, training, and support to CSI paralegals and intake specialists. CLS managers have the responsibility of working with staff to meet CLS’ statewide organizational, professional, and community goals – all of which emphasize providing high-quality civil legal services to low-income Coloradans and achieving the best possible outcomes for our clients. Requirements

  • Bachelors’ Degree
  • Three or more years’ experience working as a paralegal
  • Excellent time management, organization, and communication skills
  • Ability to take a trauma-informed approach to working with staff, applicants, and clients from diverse backgrounds, ensuring a welcoming and collaborative environment
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and the ability to work well with colleagues
  • Demonstrated commitment and sensitivity to those served by CLS

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with Legal Server, Canva, Zoom, Microsoft products, and SharePoint software
  • Proficiency in a language other than English
  • Spanish language proficiency is helpful, but is not required for this position
  • Some prior managerial experience – either managing interns, volunteers, or staff

Responsibilities

  • Assist, supervise and monitor CSI paralegals daily in screening, interviewing, and deposing cases.
  • Regularly review paralegal and intake specialists’ work product to ensure high quality service, including entering key data into Legal Server, entering case notes, reviewing letters sent to applicants or third parties, and ensuring accuracy of notes in applicants/clients’ LS casefiles.
  • Assist with the revision/development of the CSI Practice Manual and other written guidance.
  • Train new CSI paralegals and intake staff, and provide ongoing training and support for current paralegals, including regular check-ins and six-month performance review meetings. Training and supervision include subjects such as intake and office procedures, CLS policies and procedures, and training related to the substance of intake work.
  • Oversee the front desk staff and intake process to ensure accuracy, uniformity, efficiency, and effective services to applicants, and to provide support by occasionally staffing the front desk, addressing escalated clients, assisting with intake determinations, and providing resource referrals on a regular basis.
  • Create and maintain intake staff resources, including policies, intake guidelines, client resources, letter templates, and a call log utilized by intake specialists.
  • Address intake questions and concerns on a regular basis, fielding questions from attorneys, paralegals, and intake specialists.
  • Address CSI personnel, team conflict, workload, or work quality issues by working with the CSI managing attorney and other Senior Leadership members.
  • Verify staff time each pay period and manage time off, leave, and calendaring for staff.
  • Prepare monthly CSI calendar for CSI Paralegals and Attorneys of the Day, a CSI newsletter, and other CSI materials as needed.
  • Conduct and participate in staff meetings to provide training, address staff concerns, and provide regular updates.
  • Assist in providing coverage or supervision for other Denver support staff as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Maintain an understanding of the CLS eligibility guidelines and service areas
  • Demonstrate empathy, emotional intelligence, and cultural responsiveness during information-gathering conversations with applicants
  • Guide applicants to identify their specific legal issue and share relevant information
  • Refer eligible applicants for legal advice, brief services, or full representation, in accordance with CSI disposition instructions
  • Maintain familiarity with various financial resources, client services, and systems that provide services to clients in the local communities
  • Provide applicants CLS cannot serve with info and referrals to other appropriate resources.
  • Other duties as assigned.
