The New York City Comptroller’s Office works to promote the financial health, integrity, and effectiveness of New York City government, in order to strengthen trust, secure a thriving future for all New Yorkers, and build a more just, equitable, and resilient city. Led by an independently elected citywide official, the comptroller’s office provides checks and balances needed to hold City government accountable for budgeting wisely, investing responsibly, operating efficiently, acting fairly, living up to its obligations and promises, and paying attention to the long-term challenges we face together. The Bureau of Labor Law sets and enforces the prevailing and living wage, and benefit rates for workers, laborers, and mechanics employed on New York City Public Work projects as well as building service employees on City contracts and certain properties that receive tax exemptions, in accordance with its mandate under state law. The goal of the Worker’s Rights Bureau is to build upon the work that the BLL already does to combat wage theft to expand worker’s rights and enforcement through legislation, policy, procurement, and corporate shareholder engagement initiatives, while strengthening the office’s outreach strategies to educate New Yorkers on their labor rights. The Bureau of Labor Law seeks a paralegal to manage the organization of its labor investigations case files. The paralegal will be part of the Bureau's Enforcement Unit, which investigates violations of prevailing wage laws in New York City and seeks to recover back wages for workers. The position will report to the Bureau's director. The paralegal will provide support to investigators and attorneys, approximately 10-15 individuals, preparing and reviewing legal correspondence for accuracy; ensuring case files are organized and up-to-date; and providing general administrative support for the work of the office.
