About The Position

Community Consolidated School District 62 in Des Plaines, Illinois is seeking a Special Education Paraeducator at Forest Elementary School in the Special Needs Kindergarten program. The position involves assisting the teacher in general daily classroom activities, with a primary focus on working with students. Paraeducators are paid for 6.5 hours per day, with a typical schedule from 8:40 AM to 3:40 PM at elementary schools and 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM at middle schools. Some variations in time may occur based upon the assignment. The Paraeducator reports to an assigned classroom teacher and the building principal.

Requirements

• Hold or be eligible for a Paraprofessional license from the Illinois State Board of Education.
• ONE of the following: Associate's degree, 60 semesters of coursework, high school diploma with passing scores on ETS Parapro exam or ACT Workkeys.
• The ability to communicate effectively in oral and written English and Russian.

Responsibilities

• Communicates, collaborates, and cooperates with colleagues, supervisors, and students.
• Assists in small group student instruction; tutors pupils at teacher's request.
• Assists teacher with student behavior management.
• Assists with set up of classroom and prepares materials for specialized instructional units.
• Handles attendance reports and related clerical functions with the teacher.
• Assists in assembling/hanging materials on bulletin boards and keeping displays current.
• Operates standard school equipment such as laminator, copier, A.V. equipment, assistive technology devices, etc.
• May escort and assist children in various settings.
• Some positions may require assisting students with personal hygiene and feeding.
• Assists in monitoring student progress.
• Assist/Support in administering State and Local testing.
• Participate in staff development opportunities.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the building principal.
