About The Position

The Paraeducator Special Education position at Dayton Elementary School involves assisting in the instruction of students with disabilities in various educational settings, including mainstream classrooms, resource rooms, or center-based environments. The role requires managing student behavior, monitoring and recording student progress in various instructional areas, and addressing the physical needs of students, such as toileting, feeding, and positioning. The position is full-time, requiring 184 days of work at 6.5 hours per day.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Personal Care Assistant certification required to be completed within 30 days of start date.
• Completion of 60 semester/90 quarter credits or an associate degree (or higher) from a regionally accredited institution, or passing the ParaEducator exam or ParaPro exam.
• Good communication, interpersonal, and recordkeeping skills.
• Ability/desire to work with technology and computers.
• Ability to work cooperatively with students and staff.
• Ability to supervise students and take direction.
• Ability to maintain regular attendance and complete an assigned day.
• Must be able to lift a minimum of 40 pounds.

Responsibilities

• Assists in the instruction of students with disabilities in mainstream, resource room, or center-based settings.
• Manages behavior by redirecting, calming, or removing disruptive students from the classroom.
• Monitors and records student progress in instructional areas such as academics, daily living skills, dressing, grooming, and social skills.
• Addresses physical needs of students, including toileting, feeding, dressing, lifting, and transporting students in wheelchairs.
