This position's responsibilities are to supervise students assigned to in-school suspension, to maintain attendance and discipline records, and to perform a variety of tasks related to in-school suspension. Job Summary: ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Depending upon the individual assignment, the Paraeducator - In-School Suspension performs all or a combination of several of the following functions: 1. Supervises students assigned to in-school suspension; monitors student behavior. Correct behaviors and maintains discipline according to established policies and procedures. Instructs students in behavioral rules and codes for student safety, socialization and individual growth. 2. Processes disciplinary notices according to established procedures; mails to appropriate parent or guardian; maintains records in student files and on computer. 3. Enters attendance data into computer; runs required reports; checks on student absences for accuracy as needed; calls parents as necessary. 4. Prepares and mails deficiency notices each semester; tracks absences of at-risk students. Contacts students assigned to program as reminder of responsibility; completes form for teacher assignments; maintains records. 5. Enters data and prints lists for honor level program. Inputs demerit slips and discipline records into computer daily. Notifies teachers of students who are prohibited from participating in assemblies, dances and after-school activities. Prints out reward slips for top honor level students. 6. Monitors students in lunchroom who have been assigned to lunch detention. May supervise students who are required to eat lunch in detention room. OTHER FUNCTIONS 7. Assigns and maintains lockers for students. 8. Supervises student behavior in hallways; maintains orderly movement. 9. Collects homework assignment and books for students who are absent from school due to illness or suspension. 10. Prepares, duplicates, collates and distributes materials; operates a variety of office equipment. 11. May serve on various district committees and/or departmental work teams. Models appropriate and cooperative behavior, including protecting confidential information, consistent with district ethical guidelines. 12. Performs related duties consistent with the scope and intent of the position. REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS Reports to the school principal or assigned administrator. MENTAL DEMANDS May experience frequent interruptions; required to deal with a wide range of student behaviors and academic abilities; required to track a wide range of student actions; may occasionally deal with distraught or difficult student. PHYSICAL DEMANDS May sit for prolonged periods; may stand for prolonged periods; may be exposed to visual display terminal; potentially exposed to ordinary infectious diseases carried by students.
