About the position

The Paraeducator II works under the direction of the Special Education Director and site administrator to support instructional activities of special needs students. A majority of the assignment will be spent working directly with students in a capacity that meets learning and physical needs of students as determined by their respective Individualized Educational Plan (IEP). The role includes providing interventions and responding to inappropriate behaviors, assessing crisis situations, and intervening and defusing as appropriate.

Responsibilities

  • Support instructional activities of special needs students.
  • Work directly with students to meet their learning and physical needs as per their IEP.
  • Provide interventions and respond to inappropriate behaviors.
  • Assess crisis situations and intervene as appropriate.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent (required).
  • 48 (or more) college semester units OR certification of passing the District Paraeducator Exam OR possesses a Certificate of Proficiency examination in compliance with Education Code and No Child Left Behind Act (required).

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience working with children with Special Education needs (preferred).
