About The Position
The Paraeducator position at Destinations Academy within Bristol Eastern High School is designed to support the educational needs of students, particularly those with special needs. The role involves assisting in both small group and individual instruction under the guidance of a special education teacher. The Paraeducator will play a crucial role in maintaining discipline within the classroom and supporting the teacher with various instructional activities. This includes escorting students between rooms, assisting with classroom assignments, and supervising students during recess and lunch periods. The position may also require assistance with toileting students, which is an essential part of the role when necessary. In addition to direct student support, the Paraeducator will help in the implementation of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and will be responsible for preparing instructional materials, filing necessary paperwork, and alerting teachers to any observed issues that may arise. The role is integral to creating a supportive learning environment for both special education and regular students, ensuring that all students receive the attention and assistance they need to succeed academically and socially. The Paraeducator will work closely with the teaching staff and must be able to establish effective working relationships with students, staff, and the community. This position requires a commitment to the educational development of students and adherence to district requirements and Board of Education policies. The Paraeducator will be expected to perform their duties with a high level of professionalism and awareness of the needs of the students in their care.
