About The Position

The Paraeducator position at John Trumbull Primary School is designed to support students with special needs in a classroom setting. The role involves working closely with the classroom and special education teachers to assist students in their learning and daily activities. The position requires a commitment to fostering independence among students while providing necessary support. The anticipated start date is as soon as possible, and the position is expected to last for 184 days with a work schedule of 30 hours per week, including a half-hour unpaid lunch.

Requirements

• A minimum of two years of study at the college level (60 credits), an Associate's Degree, or a passing score on the ParaPro Assessment.

Responsibilities

• Carry out instructions and lesson plans.
• Modify tasks in real-time as needed.
• Balance providing support to assigned students while building their independence.
• Work with other students in the classroom under the direction of teachers.
• Use effective written and verbal communication skills.
• Maintain confidentiality of information regarding students and employees.
• Establish supportive relationships with students with special needs.
• Follow safety rules and procedures to assist all students.
• Assist students with physical or mental disabilities in daily living activities.
• Support students with special needs in classroom instruction to maximize inclusion and learning.
• Accompany students on field trips and assist with their supervision.
• Perform additional duties as assigned by the Director of Special Education and Pupil Personnel Services or the Building Administrator.
