About The Position

The Parachute and Seat Survival Kit Technician is a subject-matter expert responsible for the comprehensive inspection, advanced repair, precision packing, and repacking of ejection seat parachutes and seat survival kits (SSKs) in alignment with stringent technical specifications, engineering drawings, and rigorous regulatory standards. This pivotal role directly impacts the safety and survivability of aircrew personnel, ensuring maximum operational readiness in high-risk environments.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated mastery in advanced packing, repacking, and repair of parachutes and SSKs, with significant experience in aerospace or defense sectors.
  • Expert-level proficiency in interpreting complex technical manuals, engineering drawings, and blueprints.
  • Highly skilled in the use of specialized hand tools, diagnostic systems, and precision measuring instruments.
  • Proven ability to perform exact work requiring absolute precision, with a consistent track record of meeting or exceeding the highest safety and quality standards.
  • Advanced problem-solving and analytical skills to diagnose complex failures and implement effective, long-lasting solutions.
  • Strong leadership, coaching, and communication abilities, with experience delivering high-impact training and technical presentations.
  • Flexibility and commitment to support critical missions through domestic and international travel as needed.
  • At least a minimum of five years' experience in the support and maintenance of ejection seats and ejection seat components.
  • Demonstrate expertise in mechanical ability to interpret and apply technical drawings, technical manuals, and engineering documentation.
  • Position requires the ability to clearly communicate oral and written information to subordinates, peers, superiors, and customers.
  • Position requires an understanding of the maintenance and packing of Martin-Baker Aircraft Company type parachutes.
  • Position requires a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Must have the ability to accurately understand and interpret product drawings, and specifications of moderate complexity.
  • The position requires the ability to lead activities within the area of professional expertise, demonstrating the capability to work independently without direct oversight, and effectively collaborating in a team environment with subordinates, peers, and senior personnel.
  • Regularly required to sit, stand, bend, and move frequently throughout the facility.
  • Will be required to lift material not exceeding 50 lbs.
  • Must be able to use hand tools and operate packing/test equipment.
  • Ability to successfully complete a Background and Durg/Alcohol screening is required.

Nice To Haves

  • At least three years' experience with Martin-Baker Aircraft Company ejection seats is preferred.
  • Prior military experience and graduation from U.S. Navy/Marine Corps PR "A" school or U.S. Air Force equivalent preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Execute advanced repairs, modifications, and precision packing/repacking of parachutes and SSKs, restoring full operational capability to exacting DoD and Martin-Baker Aircraft Company specifications.
  • Perform detailed evaluations of parachutes and SSKs, conduct in-depth failure analysis to identify root causes and recommend corrective actions.
  • Lead comprehensive training programs for new hires and customer personnel, ensuring mastery of best practices in parachute and SSK maintenance.
  • Oversee environmental controls in the parachute packing facility, ensuring optimal heating, lighting, and humidity levels to maintain packing quality and product integrity.
  • Ensure full compliance by maintaining meticulous records, reports, and technical documentation aligned with FAA, DoD, and industry standards, minimizing audit risk and enhancing program accountability.
  • Maintain, calibrate, and certify parachute presses and specialized equipment to meet or exceed operational requirements.
  • Provide senior-level technical guidance and mentorship to internal teams and customer representatives, facilitating rapid resolution of complex issues and driving mission success.
  • Champion adherence to Martin-Baker America work instructions, operational procedures, and safety protocols, while leading initiatives to optimize workflows, enhance quality, and reduce turnaround times.
  • Direct the safe storage, handling, and deployment of pyrotechnic devices integral to ejection seat and SSK systems, minimizing safety risks and ensuring regulatory compliance.
  • Enforce rigorous Foreign Object Debris/Damage (FOD) prevention programs to safeguard critical life-support equipment, ensuring flawless performance under emergency conditions.
