About The Position

The Para Sped High Incidence position involves assisting the teacher in the education of students with various disabilities, including cognitive, communication, and social-emotional challenges. Under the supervision of an administrator and direction of a certificated/licensed staff, the paraeducator will provide instructional assistance, manage classroom behavior, ensure safety, and communicate effectively with students, support staff, and parents. The role requires a commitment to fostering academic and adaptive behavior skills in students who need support.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent required
  • Minimum of 48 accredited college credits for positions in Title Schools or passing a state-approved assessment
  • Some positions may require knowledge of sign language modalities, Braille, or NCI
  • Training in first aid, symptoms of child abuse, and signs of illness may be required

Responsibilities

  • Supervises students in class setting as directed by the teacher
  • Assists in managing classroom routines and procedures
  • Assists in interventions to redirect behavior and assess crisis situations
  • Documents occurrences and provides feedback to develop positive self-esteem of students
  • Supervises school activities on or off campus during the instructional day
  • Implements student behavior plans
  • Facilitates integration efforts by assisting students to and from assigned areas
  • Sets up the classroom for group instruction, projects, and activities
  • Integrates technology into the classroom
  • Participates in effective teaming skills, collaboration, conflict resolution, and communication
  • Provides individual and/or group instruction in academic areas
  • Assists with student engagement with the curriculum
  • Supports students with self-advocacy and technology use
  • Maintains confidentiality of student and staff information
  • Models appropriate behavior for students
  • Communicates with students, parents, and staff as directed
  • Observes and charts student behavior and assists in discipline as instructed
  • Attends and participates in staff meetings, PLCs, and parent conferences
  • Acquires a minimum of 20 hours of in-service annually
  • Assists students with basic needs including self-care and hygiene
  • Assists with additional duties as assigned by supervisor
