About The Position

The New York Times is an international brand that prints nine daily newspapers. These are printed at our Print Plant in College Point, Queens, and distributed to the New York Metropolitan area and the Eastern Seaboard. Our daily work is guided by our mission and values. We are looking for a part-time casual Paperhandler with in-depth knowledge of all Paperhandler equipment and multiple newsprint roll types for commercial printing. You will undergo a training period, after which you will read work orders or receive instructions to determine work assignments, material, and equipment requirements. You will be reporting to the Deputy Plant Manager and you will report to work onsite at our Printing facility in College Point, Queens, New York.

Requirements

  • Must be willing to work flexible hours in a Union production environment on a daily basis.
  • Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Can stand and walk for 8-10 hours per shift and lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Must be willing to undergo a background check.

Nice To Haves

  • 1+ year of experience in a production environment.
  • The ability to work with different types of paperhandler equipment.
  • The ability to work in a team environment.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure that all paper rolls for the nine daily newspapers are handled and transported safely.
  • Work in a Union production environment with deadlines on a daily basis.
  • Take inventory of paper rolls and prepare them for use in the printing facility.
  • Ensure that all paper rolls are stacked according to safety regulations.
  • Operate Paperhandler equipment safely while working with extreme care and caution.
  • You must maintain a clean environment in the paper storage area.
  • You must follow all safety guidelines and report any accidents or incidents to the supervisor.
