About The Position

The Paper Mill Superintendent is responsible for managing the safety, reliability, cost, quality, productivity, and employee engagement in a goal-oriented environment. The position is responsible for the entire Paper Department at the Florence Mill and reports to the Operations Manager.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree preferred
  • Minimum 10-15 years of related operational experience with Pulp/Paper Industry
  • At least 5-7 years of supervisory or management experience required
  • Strong leader with demonstrated communication skills and a high sense of urgency and attention to detail
  • Any equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills are essential
  • Ability to direct continuous improvement in all areas, but with special emphasis on safety, environmental, quality, production, and cost
  • Must possess excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to interface with employees at all levels of the organization
  • Must have excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent problem-solving skills
  • Excellent planning, organizational, time management and prioritization skills
  • Proficient computer skills (MS Office, MS Project, JD Edwards, Panther, etc.)

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate an environment where safety is our first priority
  • Effectively manage production performance
  • Effectively partner with other departments of the mill and create an environment of teamwork
  • Providing leadership to department personnel to ensure overall safe operations
  • Oversees administration of salary workforce in the department area reading salary reviews, vacations, and work assignments
  • Supports the continuing personal and professional development of department members
  • Identifying developmental needs and facilitating training of department members
  • Planning and controlling production performance
  • Ensures proper company/union relations according to labor agreement
  • Troubleshooting quality and operational issues and developing systems and structures to avoid reoccurrences
  • Establish high level of performance by setting key departmental goals and objectives
  • Monitoring compliance with standard operating procedures
  • Ensuring quality systems are supported, in place, and comply with required customer specifications
  • Coordinating efforts with Maintenance, Operations, and Technical Resource Departments as required
  • Identifying long term departmental improvement opportunities
