About The Position

The Reporter researches, reports on, and produces one story per week for their assigned section. Sections include news, features/entertainment, sports, and arts/culture.

Requirements

  • Background in journalism.
  • Ability to maintain professionalism and uphold ethical reporting standards.

Responsibilities

  • Research and Write Articles: Develop Chapman centric story ideas and pitches on a regular basis. Ensure all content is accurate, unbiased, and well-researched.
  • Conduct Interviews: Identify and interview relevant sources to gather information and quotes for articles. Build relationships with key contacts and sources within the community.
  • Work with Section Editors: Collaborate with section editors to refine story ideas and angles. Revise and edit articles based on feedback from editors. Attend weekly staff meetings.
  • Meet Publication Deadlines: Ensure all assignments are completed by deadlines. Handle multiple stories and pitches.
  • Cover Events and News: Attend and report on campus events, meetings, and other newsworthy activities. Write articles. 1 story per week unless otherwise communicated. Provide live coverage or updates for breaking news stories when required.
