A Panel Wirer builds, wires, and tests electrical control panels based on blueprints, schematics, and engineering specs, ensuring compliance with safety standards. Responsibilities include layout, drilling/tapping enclosures, routing wires, installing components (relays, PLCs, breakers), troubleshooting, and soldering, typically within manufacturing or automation settings. Requirements

  • Technical Knowledge: Understanding of electrical systems, components, and circuitry.
  • Experience: 2–3+ years of experience in panel building or industrial electrical work.
  • Tools: Proficient with hand tools, power tools, crimpers, and wire strippers.
  • Attention to Detail: High precision for complex, often cramped, wiring layouts.
  • Education: High school diploma/GED; vocational training or electrical certification is often preferred.
  • Ability to stand, walk, reach, and use hands/fingers to handle components for extended periods.
  • Ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.

Responsibilities

  • Interpret Schematics: Read and understand electrical diagrams, blueprints, and wiring diagrams to determine layout and connections.
  • Assembly & Mounting: Drill, tap, and mount electrical components (e.g., switches, relays, circuit breakers, drives) into enclosures.
  • Wiring & Routing: Perform precise "point-to-point" wiring, wire harnessing, and cable management within panels.
  • Testing & Troubleshooting: Perform point-to-point continuity checks, functional tests, and troubleshoot wiring issues to ensure proper operation.
  • Compliance: Ensure all work adheres to UL 508A or local electrical codes and safety standards.
  • Modification: Rework, update, or modify existing panels as required.
