ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES MAY INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING: Because Eastern Shipbuilding is continually growing to meet the needs of our customers, the essential duties and responsibilities may be different than described. Regular attendance at work and the ability to work flexible hours, including overtime, weekends and holidays. Comply with company, Federal, State, and local safety, ethics, and environmental rules, regulations and policies while performing duties. Resolve issues with regard to day-to-day operations. Responsible for meeting production schedule, maintaining resources and training needs within the Dept. Provide technical assistance and oversee the workforce in the Material Processing Dept. Inspect finished products from Material Processing to ensure they meet the specifications and standards set by the Company. Manages the procurement and inventory of raw material in order to meet the needs of production. Confer with Production/General Mgr. and other Superintendents to coordinate work schedules and prioritize work. Monitor your work performance and productivity. Manage employees and plan ahead to have their crew work safe. Coordinate the material requirements for all Company facilities to meet production needs. Oversee all incoming and outgoing material between yards. Monitor the removal of scrap metal from Company property. Research a variety of equipment parts and coordinate with vendors as needed. Performs other duties as assigned.

  • High school diploma or GED equivalence plus five to seven years’ previous shipyard experience desired.
  • Must be able to manage a crew of individuals to get the job done efficiently, effectively, and safely.
  • Three to five years’ supervisory experience desired.
  • Knowledge of the equipment in Material Processing, including CNC plasma machine, press brake, and wheelabrator, etc.
  • Requires knowledge of ship terminology, safety, OSHA, and ABS regulations.
  • Requires general knowledge of blasting and painting, fitting and welding.
  • Requires basic to intermediate level computer skills.
  • Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and written.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from management, supervisors and employees.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to read and understand blueprints.
  • Knowledge of safe operation and use of hand and power tools.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure.
