About The Position

The palliative medicine administrative assistant supports the palliative medicine program by assisting with operations to ensure providers, patients and community partners receive exceptional service. Requirements ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: · Enter palliative medicine admissions in electronic medical record · Collect past, current and future medical data on patients from hospitals and scan promptly into the electronic medical record · Assure all forms are completed and scanned in electronic medical record · Coordinate and schedule all new admissions and ongoing visits to palliative medicine patients and maintain provider calendars · Perform follow-up telephone contacts requested by palliative medicine staff · Assist with taking palliative medicine referrals, contacting physician offices, requesting information, completing referral form and entering information into electronic medical record · Discharge and send progress note to attending physician · Assist team leaders in collection of patient information, follow-up phone calls, data and other requested tasks. · Obtain physician orders and prior authorizations · Communicate referrals to home health and other agencies · Order DME and assist with medication refills, as directed · Enter palliative medicine consults and create a physician billing account/record from hospital portal · Maintain portal access to area hospitals · Organize work for volunteers to perform surveys and send clinical notes to provider offices · Monitor visit frequency for palliative medicine patients, ensuring compliance with frequency guidelines · Answer palliative medicine calls · Assist in orienting new team members, as requested · Communicate with nurse practitioners via phone or electronic access · Participate in quality improvement programs · Adhere to strict confidentiality · Adhere to safety policy and practices · Cooperate with all government agencies and outside auditors · Assist with updating policies and procedures, as appropriate · Other duties as assigned KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES: · Knowledge of ICD-10 coding · Ability to work on an interdisciplinary team · Ability to work a flexible schedule · Excellent written and oral communication skills · Excellent customer service skills · Excellent computer skills, including Microsoft Excel and Word · Strong organizational skills ·Demonstrated critical thinking and problem-solving skills MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Education: · High school diploma or equivalent Experience: · 1 year of experience in medical office or hospital Licensures & Certifications: (if applicable): · Medical office assistant training/certification preferred PHYSICAL DEMANDS: · Visual acuity to read written documentation and computer tasks · Ability to sit extended periods of time and perform administrative tasks · Ability to stand, bend and lift an average of 30 pounds · Manual dexterity with the ability to manipulate office equipment and keyboard for extended periods of time · Ability to walk, squat, kneel, climb and balance SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: · Must have an automobile with required insurance coverage and state driver’s license AMOREM provides MORE quality, MORE compassion and MORE support.
