About The Position

Smithfield Foods is seeking a motivated General Production team member to join their team. This role is crucial for delivering safe, high-quality food by performing essential production tasks and supporting coworkers. The position requires reliability, attention to detail, and a strong work ethic to meet standards for safety, quality, and teamwork. Responsibilities include working with hand tools, knives, machinery, and other equipment to process meat products. The work environment is physically demanding, potentially involving various temperatures (20-40 degrees F and over 100 degrees F), wet and humid conditions, and requires the use of personal protective equipment. Team members may be required to work overtime.

Requirements

  • At least 18 years of age
  • Willing and able to understand and follow oral and written instructions
  • Willing and able to perform a task requiring continuous/repetitive movement, including grasping, pinching hands, flexing, and extending arms
  • Willing and able to stand on concrete and/or platforms for up to a 12-hour shift
  • Willing and able to work around animal blood and/or carcass parts
  • Willing and able to work with a knife (if trained)
  • Willing and able to work in cold areas (approximately 20-40 degrees) and/or warm areas (over 100 degrees)
  • Willing and able to work in an environment that is wet and humid
  • Willing and able to work while wearing a hard hat, hearing/eye protection, and steel-toed safety shoes
  • Willing and able to work in a noisy environment using personal protective equipment (PPE)
  • Willing and able to work with sanitation/cleaning chemicals
  • Willing and able to work around strong smells/odors
  • Willing and able to climb/move on ladders, steps, stairways, walkways and platforms
  • Willing and able to bend, stoop, and twist repetitively over the course of an entire shift
  • Willing and able to walk long distances
  • Good hand-eye coordination
