The Painter performs journey-level work in painting, finishing, and maintaining various interior and exterior surfaces, structures, and fixtures. The Painter also applies undercoats and finish coats using a full range of application methods and materials and mixes and matches paints and finishes to achieve desired results.

Requirements

  • Technical Expertise: Proficiency in painting techniques, surface preparation, and application methods for various materials, including varnish, lacquer, and latex.
  • Color Matching & Mixing: Ability to mix and adjust paint colors to achieve desired finishes.
  • Attention to Detail: Precision in applying undercoats, finish coats, and ensuring high-quality workmanship.
  • Problem-Solving: Ability to assess surface conditions and determine appropriate repair and painting methods.
  • Safety Awareness: Knowledge of safety protocols, hazardous material handling, and proper use of scaffolding and ladders.
  • Equipment Operation & Maintenance: Skilled in using and maintaining painting tools, including brushes, rollers, sprayers, and pumps.
  • Time Management: Ability to estimate project timelines, prioritize tasks, and complete work efficiently.
  • Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills to interpret instructions, safety guidelines, and maintenance procedures.
  • Collaboration & Teamwork: Ability to work independently and as part of a team while maintaining a sense of urgency.
  • Basic Math Skills: Competence in basic arithmetic for estimating material quantities and project costs.
  • Computer Literacy: Comfortable using email and work order systems to document completed tasks and communicate with team members.
  • Candidates with a High School diploma or equivalent are encouraged to apply.
  • 1+ year of experience
  • Able to work a flexible schedule, including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays, based on department and company needs.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare, prime, sand, seal, patch, and paint interior and exterior surfaces, furniture, and fixtures using various painting materials such as varnish, lacquer, and latex. Adjust colors as needed.
  • Apply tape and joint compound to repair sheetrock walls and ceilings
  • Remove graffiti using a variety of available products
  • Install and repair wall coverings
  • Operate, clean, and maintain all painting equipment, including brushes, rollers, sprayers, and pumps
  • Purchase and inventory equipment and supplies
  • Estimate time and materials required for projects
  • Erect scaffolding and use ladders as needed while following safety codes
  • Safely store and label all materials
  • Adhere to state and local disposal requirements for hazardous materials handling
  • Respond to routine and emergency service calls and document completed work in the work order system
  • Perform these functions efficiently as directed by the Supervisor
  • Maintain dependable attendance and punctuality

  • In addition to the essential duties mentioned above, other duties may be assigned
