About The Position

NYC Parks is the steward of over 30,000 acres of land – 14% of New York City. We operate more than 800 athletic fields and nearly 1,000 playgrounds, 1,800 basketball courts, 550 tennis courts, 65 public pools, and 51 recreational facilities. From the iconic Central Park to neighborhood playgrounds, we own and operate some of the most spectacular green spaces in the world. Major Responsibilities - Under supervision, do inside and outside patching and painting of a general nature, including all coats. - Prepare, fill and prime surfaces for painting, including public restrooms, recreation centers, play equipment, pools, historic houses, fencing, benches and handball court walls. - Plaster, patch, sand and tape surfaces as necessary. - Erect and use ladders, platforms and scaffolding. - Mix paint components, match colors and utilize brush, roller and spray gun tools. - Safeguard Parks & Recreation property, tools and equipment. - Maintain accurate records and produce reports pertaining to assigned tasks. - Interact with staff and the public in a courteous and professional manner.

Requirements

  • Five years of full-time satisfactory experience as a painter acquired within the last fifteen years; or
  • At least three years of full-time satisfactory experience as a painter acquired within the last fifteen years and sufficient full-time satisfactory apprentice painter experience to make up a total of five years of acceptable experience. Six months of acceptable experience will be credited for each year of apprentice painter experience.
  • For appointment to certain positions, candidates will be required to possess a Motor Vehicle Driver License valid in the State of New York. This license must be maintained for the duration of employment.
