About The Position

Are you seeking an opportunity to apply your painting skills for a premier research and development institution? If so, we’re looking for someone like you to join our team. The Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (APL), a national leader in scientific research and development, located midway between Baltimore and Washington, DC is seeking a Painter to work as a member of a multi-craft construction team, supporting other trades for interior and exterior renewal projects. Painters prepare and paint a variety of interior and exterior architectural surfaces, machinery and equipment. They prepare and apply various types of single and multi-component coatings. As a Painter, you will: Survey existing coating conditions and recommend methods and techniques to restore to the desired condition. Prepare work site and surfaces for painting, consistent with the materials to be used and in conformance with accepted industry standards and specifications Select, mix and apply various interior and exterior coatings Clean up after each job completion, maintain a safe and orderly work area and perform minor painting equipment maintenance as needed You will operate APL vehicles and industrial equipment to perform these duties Work a regular schedule of 6:00 AM to 2:30 PM, with flexibility for extended hours or occasional weekend work during peak periods or customer-driven outages

Requirements

  • Five (5) or more years painting experience in a commercial/industrial environment
  • Working knowledge of the various interior and exterior coating systems (latex and epoxy) used in a commercial/industrial facility
  • Working knowledge of OSHA and EPA requirements related to personal safety and environmental protection
  • Ability to set-up and operate tools and equipment associated with the painting trade
  • Effective communications skills, both verbal and written
  • Capable user of Personal Computers
  • Have a valid driver’s license and can pass a Motor Vehicle Record check
  • Are able to obtain a Secret level security clearance. If selected, you will be subject to a government security clearance investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship.

Nice To Haves

  • Are a member in the Society of Protective Coatings (SSPC) or National Association of Corrosion Engineers (NACE)
  • Possess OSHA or EPA training or certification
