About The Position

Performs skilled/full journey level duties under limited supervision to prepare surfaces and in painting and finishing varied surfaces, including buildings, equipment and other structures within the school district. An incumbent in this position will follow generally standardized operating policies and procedures. On occasion he/she will have to utilize discretion, ingenuity and independent judgment due to the complexity of the job.

Requirements

  • Experience as a painter totaling at least five years
  • A high school diploma or equivalent
  • Health and Inoculation Certificate on file in the central office (after employment offer is made.)
  • A valid driver’s license
  • Other alternatives as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable
  • Must have knowledge of and ability to perform journey-level Painter work in the maintenance and repair of District facilities and equipment.
  • Communication Skills (oral, written, or business).
  • Basic communication skills to exchange information give/receive simple instructions and respond to inquiries. Includes filling out forms.
  • Mathematical Skills: Performs routine computations requiring knowledge of addition, subtraction, multiplication and division using whole numbers, fractions, decimals and/or percentages.
  • Reading and Interpreting: Reads and interprets complex written or printed materials such as schematics, blueprints, building plans, charts, diagrams, maps or instruction material.
  • Tools and Equipment Usage (other than keyboards, or office machines): Uses tools or equipment with expertise acquired through extensive experience and/or specialized training.

Responsibilities

  • Trouble shoots painting problems and performs general maintenance and repairs for all buildings.
  • Perform a wide variety of skilled journey-level painting in the maintenance and repair of District facilities and equipment.
  • Paints, stains, and varnishes using brushes and rollers.
  • Cleans, sands, sandblasts, scrapes, brushes and burns surfaces in preparation for painting.
  • Prepares surfaces to be painted including plastering and sheet rock finishing.
  • Estimate labor and material cost for specific projects.
  • Erects scaffolding, movable and immovable staging and various rigging to gain access to difficult areas; moves furniture and equipment.
  • Assure compliance with appropriate safety practices and procedures and with applicable federal, State and local codes, regulations and requirements.
  • Informs supervisor of parts, equipment and other supplies that are necessary to do job.
  • Keeps necessary parts and supplies on hand for common projects.
  • Cleans work area and maintains shop and tools, including assigned vehicle.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Ability to maintain school grounds in top condition to ensure full and productive use of district facilities.
  • Ability to ensure all activities conforms to district guidelines.
  • Ability to communicate and work effectively and cooperatively with members of the school district and community.
  • Ability to react to change and frequent interruptions in a productive and positive manner, and handle other tasks as assigned.
  • Ability to operate all equipment and machinery appropriately as necessary.
  • Ability to work to implement the vision and mission of the district.
  • Ability to assist in maintaining school buildings and grounds in top condition.
  • Ability to assist in promoting the safety, health, and comfort of students and employees in school buildings and grounds.
  • Ability to maintain a high standard of safety, cleanliness, and efficiency in all maintenance and repair projects.
  • Ability to perform maintenance, repair, and installation in connection with: electrical, plumbing, and HVAC systems; exterior and interior of buildings school grounds
  • Ability to move equipment and materials within and between school buildings.
  • Ability to work overtime when emergencies arise in order to prevent disruption of the schools.
  • Ability to act as a substitute custodian when necessary.
  • Ability to observe and follow all school district policies at all times.
  • Keep current on new information, innovative ideas and techniques.
  • Ability to respond to information requests in a cooperative, courteous, and timely manner.
  • Ability to keep information and records confidential.
  • Ability to implement and follow all district health and safety policies, including all precautions of the Bloodborne Pathogens Exposure Control Plan.
  • Ability to perform other duties and assume other responsibilities assigned by the building and grounds supervisor or administrative staff.
