Scope of Role The Painter position is responsible for performing assigned duties related to the painting and packaging of speed reducers or gear boxes.

  • Potential physical demands include, but are not limited to: frequent walking, standing, twisting, carrying and handling; regular bending, stooping and kneeling; regular lifting up to 50 lbs.; occasional climbing, pushing and pulling.
  • Potential sensory demands include but are not limited to: hearing and seeing.
  • Incumbent will be required to complete and pass a respirator baseline and annual test for Powered-Air Purifying Respirator (PAPR).
  • Must be able comply with requirements stated in OSHA 1910.134 Respiratory protection and Boston Gear’s Respiratory Protection Procedure.

  • Exposure to lean manufacturing principles is a plus.
  • Previous experience in a manufacturing environment is strongly desired.

Responsibilities

  • Perform painting process for completed units for shipment according to established methods, procedures and standards.
  • Inspect units to assure housings are free from lubricant and dirt prior to painting.
  • Prepare units for painting by ensuring all shafts, bores, and oil seals are masked correctly from the paint process.
  • Ensure unit nameplates and shafts are protected from exposure to paint.
  • Ensure units move along the paint line smoothly to maintain productive flow of work.
  • Ensure all unit surfaces are coated (both units painted on the line and units spray painted).
  • Follow written instruction on method for keeping spray equipment clean and undamaged.
  • Clean paint booth, paint filters and related equipment using chemicals as instructed.
  • Operate overhead hoist.
  • Keep accurate records of numbers and types of units painted.
  • Perform some final assembly when applicable in accordance with engineering specifications.
  • Inspect units to ensure that the unit is painted according to standards.
  • Ensure all units are packed correctly using a one-piece flow method, to include accurately matching unit labels and box labels to units.
  • Ensure each unit is packed in appropriate carton according to established methods, procedures and instructions for this process, to include packing unit using proper liner, foam packaging material and/or packing paper.
  • Operate foam packing, strapping and tape machines.
  • Assist Distribution department in preparation and shipment of finished goods as required.
  • Comply with local, state and federal environmental regulations regarding the management of hazardous waste.
  • Comply with local, state, and federal EHS regulations regarding proper labeling on secondary containers, chemical storage, maintaining job specific PPE which may include hearing protection and respiratory protection.
  • Attend and comply with site specific EHS trainings and policies
