About The Position

Skilled craft-work preparing and applying paint to exterior and interior surfaces. This entrance level class lies below that of Painter Foreperson.

Requirements

• Must have four (4) years of full-time painting experience using tools and equipment of the painting trade such as spray guns, rollers, brushes, paints, varnishes, lacquers, enamels, paint removers, airless sprayers, and pressure washers.
• A valid Florida Driver's License is required prior to appointment and must be maintained during employment in this class.
• Depending on assignment, a valid Florida Class D Driver's License may be required prior to appointment and must be maintained during employment in this class.
• Knowledge of techniques, methods, practices, and procedures used in painting that is acquired through training and job experience
• Knowledge of techniques, methods, practices, and procedures used in painting interior and exterior surfaces
• Knowledge of drywall and plaster finishing
• Knowledge of the materials, tools, and equipment used in painting
• Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions
• Skill in the use and care of materials, tools, and equipment used in painting
• Skill in basic oral, written, and interpersonal communications
• Ability to mix, match, and tint paint and colors
• Ability to read, understand and apply job-related information and materials.
• Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions
• Ability to work at heights on extension ladders, scaffolding, or use aerial man lifts
• Ability to perform arithmetic calculations
• Ability to communicate effectively
• Ability to operate a motor vehicle

Responsibilities

• Prepares surfaces to be painted by removing dirt, scales, rust, old paint, grease, and other materials.
• Scrubs, pressure washes, scrapes, and sands surfaces.
• Applies primers and sizing.
• Patches drywall, plaster, and other surfaces of furniture, equipment, and the interiors and exteriors of buildings.
• Mixes, tints, and applies paint to furniture, equipment, and the interiors and exteriors of buildings.
• Erects and dismantles scaffolding.
• Cleans and maintains rollers, brushes, and spray guns, and makes minor repairs to equipment and apparatus.
• Cleans and maintains work area as needed.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
