About The Position

The Painter reports to the Maintenance Manager at the District Office. The work schedule is 12 months per year; Monday - Thursday; 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. This position is represented by the California School Employees Association (CSEA), Chapter 363. Under general supervision, incumbents perform journeyman level work on the district buildings and surfaces by preparing surfaces, mixing, matching, applying paints, stains and finishes on surfaces using a variety of tools to perform painting projects, including minor repairs.

Requirements

  • Educational equivalent to the completion of the 12th grade.
  • Two years' experience in painting work, including experience at the journeyman level.
  • Possession of a valid California driver's license.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare walls and other surfaces for covering application.
  • Select the correct tools, equipment and surface finishes for projects.
  • Mix and apply paints, varnishes, stains and sealants for a lasting finish.
  • Cover exposed objects and surfaces.
  • Mix and match paints and finish products of various consistencies and colors.
  • Use fillers and other surface preparation products such as primers, putty and plaster for repairs.
  • Apply paints to all types of surfaces using such equipment as brushes, rollers, conventional and airless spray equipment.
  • Hang vinyl, wallpaper and other surfaces applied products.
  • Maintain painting equipment in good clean operable condition.
  • Cut, replace and glaze glass.
  • Perform general maintenance work as required, including cleanup of spaces, equipment and tools after painting is completed.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned related to the job classification.
