About The Position

The Painter - Manufacturing Aerospace position is responsible for the operation of manually operated hand painting equipment as well as automatic paint lines for the application of final finishes to prescribed specifications. The role involves setting up and operating automatic paint lines and hand-painting booths, preparing sprayers for use, selecting and mixing coating liquids, cleaning and maintaining all spraying equipment, and inspecting work in process. The painter must ensure surfaces are free of contaminants, perform minor paint and preparation duties, and maintain control of on-hand consumable paint supplies while adhering to safety regulations.

Requirements

  • 2 or more years prior directly related manufacturing process experience.
  • Proficient in reading, understanding, and following blueprints, specifications, and verbal instructions.
  • Able to perform basic mathematical calculations.
  • Effectively applies lean initiatives and maintains operational and quality metrics.
  • Demonstrates effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Able to work in a team environment and provide input to engineering or other leaders.
  • Interprets reports and uses job-specific software applications.
  • Participates in goal setting, performance feedback, and self-development activities.

Responsibilities

  • Operate manually operated hand painting equipment and automatic paint lines.
  • Set up and operate automatic paint lines and hand-painting booths.
  • Prepare sprayers for use and operate all equipment.
  • Select and mix coating liquid to produce desired properties and color.
  • Clean and maintain all spraying equipment and brushes with solvent.
  • Heat and spray wax onto products after testing.
  • Inspect work in process including paint thickness and documentation.
  • Ensure surfaces are free of dirt, oil, and media.
  • Strip and clean improperly finished parts for re-paint.
  • Remove rust or old paint from metal with acid, wire brush, or steel wool.
  • Mask devices and prepare them for painting.
  • Monitor chemical concentration in cleaning baths according to procedure.
  • Apply filler paint and/or paste to applicable engraved areas.
  • Maintain control of on-hand consumable paint supplies.
  • Handle all equipment and waste properly, including hazardous waste.
  • Observe all safety rules and regulations and maintain a neat work area.
  • Perform other related responsibilities as assigned.
