About The Position

The Paint Shop Supervisor at Florida State University is responsible for overseeing a team of painters within the University Facilities paint shop. This role involves directing tasks, ensuring productivity and quality of work, and maintaining safety standards. The supervisor will also manage contractor work, maintain records, and participate in the hiring and training processes for paint shop staff.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalency.
  • Five years of experience in a related field or a combination of post high school education and experience equal to five years.
  • Completion of an approved apprenticeship program in a recognized trade and appropriate experience equal to five years.
  • A valid State of Florida or Georgia Driver's License or ability to obtain upon hire.

Responsibilities

  • Provides direction and supervision to a team of painters within the University Facilities paint shop.
  • Assign tasks, provide guidance, and ensure the team's productivity, quality of work, and adherence to safety standards.
  • Ensures staff have appropriate tools and materials needed.
  • Provide quotes for contracted work to the Facilities Superintendent for approval.
  • Assist in the oversight and management of contractors completing relevant painting work.
  • Provide support to other campus partners and areas as needed.
  • Maintains records associated with the paint shop.
  • Approves daily and weekly time reporting entries into Time Clock Plus.
  • Approves leave and other processes.
  • Participates in the recruiting, hiring, training, evaluation, and disciplinary process of paint shop staff.
  • Ensures that staff are properly trained and aware of relevant workplace hazards.
  • Participates in the coordination and execution of developing a process to guide and train painting staff on proper procedures to respond to painting work requests and tasks.
  • Completes required safety training and complies with all safety standards.
  • Reports complex and/or unusual problems to the Facilities Superintendent and coordinates with other Maintenance Supervisors and staff as required to complete complex tasks.
  • Operates university vehicles and performs other related work as required in support of Facilities Maintenance.
