About The Position

As a Paint Shop Booth & Oven Commissioning Engineer, you will play a critical role in bringing advanced automotive paint shop systems to life. You will lead the commissioning, balancing, and validation of paint booths and curing ovens to ensure optimal performance, safety, and compliance. This role combines hands-on technical expertise, problem-solving, and collaboration in fast-paced, project-based environments across North America.

Requirements

  • Technical degree or equivalent hands-on experience in mechanical, electrical, or industrial engineering.
  • Experience with automotive paint shop equipment, industrial ventilation systems, or thermal processing equipment.
  • Strong understanding of airflow dynamics, heat transfer, combustion systems, and controls.
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, P&IDs, and equipment specifications.
  • Proven ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues independently in customer-site environments.
  • Strong organizational, time management, and technical documentation skills.
  • Clear verbal communication skills and the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Adaptability and willingness to learn in dynamic, project-driven environments.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Willingness to travel extensively (estimated 75%) and work overtime, weekends, or holidays as required.
  • Pass a pre-employment drug test and be able to pass a drug test at any time during employment.
  • Adhere to the policies and procedures outlined in the employee handbook.

Responsibilities

  • Commission, balance, and validate automotive paint booths and curing ovens using calibrated instruments (e.g., manometers, anemometers, temperature probes).
  • Execute booth baselines, booth balancing, oven balancing, airflow profiling, and temperature uniformity testing.
  • Diagnose and resolve mechanical, electrical, and control-related performance issues during startup and ramp-up.
  • Develop and implement commissioning plans and schedules in coordination with project management and engineering teams.
  • Document all readings, test results, and corrective actions in approved formats and detailed commissioning reports.
  • Ensure systems meet design specifications, regulatory standards, and safety requirements.
  • Collaborate closely with project managers, controls engineers, senior site leadership, and customer personnel.
  • Support startup, debug, and extended on-site assistance as required.
  • Identify opportunities for continuous improvement and recommend system optimizations.
  • Participate in site coordination meetings, safety programs, and quality initiatives.
  • Provide customer support, standby assistance, and post-startup troubleshooting as needed.
