Requirements

  • Must have a high school diploma, an equivalent certificate, or a bronze level WorkKeys certification.
  • Paint preparation and/or aircraft spray painting or equivalent or manufacturing spray painting experience preferred.
  • Team oriented, self-driven and safety conscious.
  • Goal-oriented and driven to meet and/or exceed quality expectations.
  • IQ certification preferred.
  • Problem-solving skills.
  • Positive behavior.
  • Good soft skills.

Responsibilities

  • Assure surfaces of aircraft are smooth and prepared for primer and finish paint application.
  • Apply finishes to a variety of parts, assemblies and/or completed aircraft.
  • Work in accordance with general safety procedures to avoid accidents.
  • Maintain protective safety equipment such as goggles, masks and respirators in proper working order.
  • Perform surface preparation of aircraft prior to painting.
  • Mark areas to be filled.
  • Mix hardener and filler.
  • Apply hardener and filler to unfinished areas needing smoothing and contouring.
  • Visually check surface for discrepancies in paint to assure conformity to desired specifications.
  • Use conventional air and HVLP spray painting equipment and be familiar with airless spray-painting equipment.
  • Use simple hand tools and some measuring equipment (i.e. a Zahn cup).
  • Ascertain whether paint spraying equipment is in good operating order before and after spray painting assignments.
  • Spray primer, paint filler and protective paint on prepared surfaces.
  • Prepare plastic, fiberglass, or composite parts of aircraft using filler to provide uniform surface for paint adhesion.
  • Use painting equipment including brushes and spray guns to perform minor rework, touchup, priming, finish painting of partial aircraft.
  • Prepare painted surfaces.
  • Spray primers or various paint finishes to parts, assemblies, or completed aircraft.
  • Use some judgment in obtaining desired finish.
  • Work under the guidance and instruction of Painters and SOJT.
  • Strip aircraft or aircraft parts using chemical paint removers.
  • Rough and finish aircraft parts using various types of sandpaper and hand sanding machines.
  • Apply alodine, wash aircraft or seal a variety of components.
  • Work from oral and written instructions and established procedures and specifications.
  • Professionally apply paint or primer to surface maintaining finish requirements acceptable to shop supervision and quality control.
  • Be responsible for the quality of own work.
  • Listen to concerns and respond appropriately based on feedback given through the learning curve.
  • Learn to identify the need for improvements and be open to new ideas.
