Paint & Coatings Technician

PAINT & COATINGS TECHNICIAN As a member of the construction projects and facilities team, the paint & coatings technician mixes, strips, paints, and details advanced paint systems, prepares metallic substrates via abrasion and etchants, applies sealants/adhesives, maintains spraying equipment, and uses precision tools like calipers while supporting safety, quality, and delivery improvements. You will have the opportunity to drive positive changes in a fast-paced, low-drag environment. This technician owns tasks and projects from start to finish, with the goal of making the SpaceX campus a world-class test facility that can support the mission of enabling life beyond Earth.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalency certificate
- 1+ years of experience as a painter in a residential, commercial, industrial, or manufacturing environment
- Experience painting projects indoors and outdoors
Nice To Haves
- Experience in commercial and industrial painting practices and processes, including the properties and application of paints, varnishes, lacquers, enamels, epoxies, paint removers, and related materials
- Familiarity with applicable code requirements, methods and practices for maintaining tools, machinery, and equipment
- 5+ years of experience as a painter in a residential, commercial, industrial, or manufacturing environment
- Experience painting internal and external surfaces
- Ability to safely operate aerial platforms, lifts, man lifts, and heavy equipment
Responsibilities
- Manage and coordinate ticket system requests for paint projects across the site to ensure timely and quality execution of work
- Prepare, prime, sand, seal, patch, and paint steel surfaces, buildings, and fixtures utilizing all types of painting materials such as varnish, lacquer, shellac, enamel, latex, epoxy, waterproofing, and heat-resistant finishes
- Tape, float, paint, and repair wall finishes and apply texture
- Operate, clean, and maintain all painting equipment, including brushes, rollers, sprayers, electrostatic sprayers, and pumps
- Safely store and label all materials on a daily basis
- Erect scaffolding, rigging, and ladders as necessary in a manner consistent with safety codes
- Operate and use required tools and equipment skillfully and safely
- Apply finishes to a wide variety of surfaces
