About The Position

AST SpaceMobile is building the first and only global cellular broadband network in space to operate directly with standard, unmodified mobile devices based on our extensive IP and patent portfolio and designed for both commercial and government applications. Our engineers and space scientists are on a mission to eliminate the connectivity gaps faced by today’s five billion mobile subscribers and finally bring broadband to the billions who remain unconnected. Position Overview We are seeking a Paint / Abrade Technician to join our fast-paced manufacturing team. This role focuses on surface preparation, painting, and finishing of aerospace components. The ideal candidate is organized, detail-oriented, and comfortable managing a small team while operating painting robots and following standard programs. Prior experience in painting or surface finishing is valued but not required to be highly technical. This position is assigned to Shift 2-Nights: Monday–Thursday, 6:00 p.m.–4:30 a.m. (4x10s). Depending on business needs, this role also has opportunities on: Shift 3- Weekends: Friday–Sunday, 6:00 a.m.–6:00 p.m. (3x12s).

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Experience in painting, surface finishing, or running a paint booth preferred.
  • Experience with robotic paint systems is a plus.
  • Previous team leadership or supervisory experience preferred.
  • Organized and detail-oriented with strong time management skills.
  • Ability to lead and motivate a small team effectively.
  • Positive attitude and adaptable to a fast-paced production environment.
  • Strong focus on safety and quality compliance.
  • Ability to work in a standard manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to lift and move materials as required.
  • Ability to perform repetitive physical tasks safely and efficiently.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with aerospace finishing processes is a plus.
  • Ability to follow detailed procedures and quality standards.
  • Comfortable training and mentoring team members.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and paint aerospace components using manual or robotic paint systems.
  • Operate and maintain painting robots and follow pre-set programs for consistent finishes.
  • Manage a small team of surface finishing operators, providing guidance and oversight.
  • Ensure proper surface preparation, masking, and safety compliance.
  • Inspect painted components for quality, coverage, and defects.
  • Maintain detailed records of painting operations, materials used, and process adjustments.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the paint/abrade process.
