The Department of Anesthesiology at Emory University School of Medicine is seeking pain medicine board eligible/board certified physician to join our Emory University Hospital Midtown Pain Division. Expected roles: Evaluate patients in clinic for chronic pain of varying etiologies, including but not limited to chronic low back pain, neuropathy, cancer-related pain, headaches and facial pain, and fibromyalgia. Perform interventional procedures for chronic pain at the ambulatory surgery center and operating room Provide perioperative nerve blocks for the operating room, including but not limited to thoracic epidural catheter placement, brachial plexus blocks, low extremity nerve blocks, and truncal blocks. Inpatient consults for acute pain Teaching, via didactics and/or during patient care, of anesthesiology residents and pain management fellows. Abundance of committee, leadership, and research opportunities depending on areas of interest. The Emory Pain Center is part of Emory Healthcare and, as part of an academically-based health system, our pain specialists are also Anesthesiology faculty members at Emory University School of Medicine and involved with research and clinical trials that result in innovations and improved treatments for pain therapy. Staffed exclusively by Emory University School of Medicine faculty, Emory University Hospital is a quaternary-care academic medical center which performs 25,000 anesthetic cases per year and is one of the nation's leading hospitals in solid organ transplants, cancer, neurosurgery, and more. Emory University Midtown Hospital, located in downtown Atlanta delivers excellent anesthesia care for cardiothoracic, orthopedic, vascular, major abdominal and pelvic surgery. There is a robust inpatient Regional Anesthesia and Acute Pain Medicine Service (RAAPM). Knowledge of management of acute pain in hospitalized patients with chronic pain is desired. There are 3 advanced practice providers (APP’s) who work collectively on the RAAPM service, between the Emory University and Emory University Midtown Hospitals. Anesthesiology residents and a RAAPM fellow are also involved on the service. Emory University’s anesthesiology program includes 48 residents, 20 fellows in ACGME accredited programs such as Pain Medicine, Adult Cardiothoracic, Critical care, OB, Pediatric, and non-ACGME accredited programs in RAAPM, Neuro anesthesia and liver transplant. Atlanta provides modern big-city amenities with southern charm, hospitality and a low cost of living. Besides a thriving arts scene, the city also offers world class restaurants, sporting events, historical museums, great school systems, the World of Coke, The Georgia Aquarium and an abundance of cultural attractions. Other features include nationally ranked private and public universities, the countries busiest international airport, and ample opportunities for outdoor recreation. Atlanta’s central location also allows drivable access to the Gulf Coast and Florida beaches, Tennessee mountains and even North Carolina skiing.
