About The Position

General Definition: Responsible for inspecting horses' shoes in the paddock and fixes any shoe problem under the direction of the trainer.

Requirements

• High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and 5 years related experience and/or training; or combination.
• Must be knowledgeable of the Rules of Racing.
• Able to work at a fast pace in often crowded/noisy environment
• Excellent customer service/communication skills
• Must meet professional appearance standards as prescribed by company policy.
• Ability to read and interpret documents in English, such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
• Ability to read and communicate verbally in English.
• Written communication skills in English may also be required.
• Must be able to pass a background check and receive a license or permit from any Regulatory Agency, if applicable to perform the essential job functions
• Texas Racing Commission License (TXRC)
• Strength: Medium to Heavy workload
• Stand, sit and walk consistently
• Will be required to lift up to or over 20lbs or exert occasionally over 100lbs
• Will consistently be required to touch, feel, stoop, bend, kneel, climb, reach
• Will use office equipment
• Driving motor vehicles as needed
• Frequently speak and articulate
• Noise levels will be varied from moderate to heavy machinery
• Exposure to weather and extreme elements
• Minimal exposure in close proximity to horses

Responsibilities

• Inspect every horse's shoes in the paddock and determine that all shoes are in compliance with current policies
• Correct or fix any shoe that has moved from its original position on the horse's hoof
• Other duties as assigned
