About The Position

Responsible for the management of all nursing care rendered immediately post-operative. He/she is capable of making intelligent, independent decisions in all aspects of PACU Nursing and has a working knowledge of surgical procedures and an equal knowledge of the technical equipment utilized for monitoring delivery of care.

Requirements

• Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
• Certification in Basic Life Support
• Certification in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
• Current North Carolina license as a registered nurse
• At least two (2) years of recent PACU or critical care experience that has afforded a working experience with the different types of operative procedures and anesthetic agents currently used so as to be prepared to provide optimum care for the patient in the immediate post-operative phase of anesthesia

Responsibilities

• Provide optimal patient care in the immediate post-operative phase of anesthesia and surgery
• Notifies physician and anesthetist of any adverse alteration in patient’s physical status and initiates emergency measures
• Notifies Diagnostic Imaging, Laboratory, Cardiopulmonary, or Pharmacy of physicians’ requests regarding immediate post-operative needs
• Restocks supplies, at the end of the day, which have been used during the course of the day
• Regulates, monitors, maintains, and documents all intravenous fluids that the patient receives in the PACU. Maintains accurate records of all vital signs, drains, and special equipment used on patient for recovery
