This PACU Manager serves as working manager overseeing 18.5 FTEs providing high-quality post-operative care across a wide range of inpatient and outpatient surgical services. Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from accredited program
  • Current Texas RN license in good standing or active multi-state compact license
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in Operating Room or Day Surgery
  • Previous management or leadership experience
  • BLS (Basic Cardiac Life Support) certification
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification
  • Strong clinical expertise in post-anesthesia nursing and perioperative care
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills
  • Availability for Monday-Friday days with no weekend requirements

Nice To Haves

  • CPAN (Certified Post Anesthesia Nurse) or CAPA (Certified Ambulatory Perianesthesia Nurse) certification
  • Experience in PACU management or charge nurse roles
  • Background in high-volume surgical centers with diverse case mix

Responsibilities

  • Oversee day-to-day operations of post-anesthesia care unit as working manager maintaining clinical involvement and leadership presence.
  • Plan, direct, and control staffing assignments in accordance with objectives and policies ensuring effective departmental coverage and productivity targets.
  • Review and approve personnel performance appraisals including establishment of goals for each employee to support professional development.
  • Regularly review and revise departmental manuals, policies, procedures, standing orders, and protocols with appropriate stakeholder input.
  • Observe condition of facilities and take corrective action to solve existing or potential problems affecting patient care delivery.
  • Participate in process improvement activities to optimize PACU operations, patient outcomes, and quality metrics.
  • Support management decisions by acting as change agent through role modeling and effective communication.
  • Maintain current professional growth through independent study, continuing education programs, and specialty certification maintenance.
  • Participate in budget development, monitoring, and inventory control to ensure fiscal responsibility and resource optimization.
  • Foster staff development through coaching, mentoring, and creating opportunities for professional growth and competency enhancement.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory standards including Joint Commission, CMS, and state requirements for post-anesthesia care.
  • Collaborate with anesthesiologists, surgeons, and perioperative teams to ensure seamless patient transitions from OR to PACU.
  • Monitor patient safety protocols, pain management strategies, and discharge readiness criteria across all PACU operations.
  • Lead quality improvement initiatives focused on reducing complications, optimizing recovery times, and enhancing patient satisfaction.
