About The Position

Under the supervision of the Clinical Manager of PACU, this role performs all duties of a Staff Nurse and Charge Nurse when needed. Collaborates directly with physicians and anesthesia to facilitate the flow of surgical cases through the preoperative and postoperative areas. Provides functional direction to members of the perioperative team to achieve optimal patient outcomes. Requirements

  • Licensure as Registered Nurse in the State of Rhode Island by the Rhode Island Board of Nursing or licensure as a Registered Nurse in accordance with the Nurse Licensure Compact agreement of the National Council of State Boards of Nursing.
  • Completion of formal education in an accredited school of nursing.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing required.
  • RN with current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Rhode Island.
  • Conforms to the Code of Professional Nurses.
  • Understands the provisions of the Nurse Practice Act of the state of Rhode Island.
  • Responsible for maintaining a current knowledge of contemporary Professional Nursing practice within the legal framework of the Nurse Practice Act.
  • BLS, ACLS, PALS certified
  • Demonstrated knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to patients throughout the life span, with consideration of aging processes, human development stages, and cultural patterns in each step of the care process.

Nice To Haves

  • Three years’ relevant PACU experience with demonstrated clinical and leadership skills in the charge role preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees the daily operations of the three PACU units (Davol, ASC, and Hasbro), monitoring the patient schedule and daily bed needs, and ensuring that both physician and patient needs are met.
  • Prepares daily assignment sheets, weekly surgical bed-need forecasts, and staff schedules.
  • Contributes to the hiring process and coordinates orientation for new staff.
  • Creates staffing schedules for weekends, holidays, and vacation coverage to ensure adequate daily staffing.
  • Provides professional guidance and assistance to nursing personnel in their work activities.
  • Assists in completing performance evaluations and annual unit competencies.
  • Performs the duties of Staff Nurse and Charge Nurse when needed.
  • Coordinates repair and maintenance of equipment; maintains appropriate inventory of unit supplies including office and dietary.
  • Assists with weekly pediatric MAP reviews.
  • Maintains quality assurance, safety, environmental, and infection control standards in accordance with hospital policies and procedures.
  • Provides guidance, support, and constructive feedback to PACU staff RNs as applicable.
  • Utilizes effective conflict resolution techniques.
  • Collects and analyzes perioperative data to facilitate collaboration and negotiation with stakeholders; audits quality data as needed.
  • Pursues professional growth and actively participates in a professional organization.
  • Acts as a patient advocate while maintaining privacy and confidentiality of individuals and health information.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
  • Subject to rotational shift assignments, including off-shift hours, to ensure adequate unit staffing and operational continuity.
