About The Position

The PACS Administrator plays a critical role in managing and maintaining the Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS) within a healthcare facility. This position is responsible for ensuring seamless imaging workflows, optimizing PACS infrastructure, providing technical support, and ensuring compliance with industry regulations. The role is vital for enhancing the efficiency of imaging services and contributing to high-quality patient care.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in information technology, Health Information Management, or a related field; or equivalent work experience.
  • 2+ years of experience in managing PACS systems or similar healthcare IT environments.
  • Proficiency in PACS software, DICOM standards, and medical imaging technologies.
  • Experience with database management and server administration.
  • Knowledge of network protocols and IT infrastructure.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with a proactive approach to identifying and resolving technical issues.
  • Effective communication skills and interpersonal skills.

Nice To Haves

  • PACS Administrator Certification (Certified PACS Associate (CPAS), Certified DICOM Integration Professional (CDIP), Certified PACS System Analyst (CPSA), or Certified Imaging Informatics Professional (CIIP)) preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Administer and support the PACS infrastructure, including servers, storage, and software.
  • Ensure system availability, performance, and reliability through regular monitoring and maintenance.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues related to PACS hardware and software.
  • Oversee the storage, retrieval, and backup of imaging data.
  • Ensure data integrity, security, and compliance with relevant regulations (e.g., HIPAA).
  • Perform regular audits and system updates to maintain data accuracy and consistency.
  • Provide technical support to radiologists, technicians, and other healthcare professionals using the PACS system.
  • Develop and deliver training materials and sessions to enhance user proficiency and adoption.
  • Plan and execute system upgrades, patches, enhancements, and migrations in alignment with business objectives.
  • Collaborate with vendors and IT teams to integrate PACS with other healthcare systems (e.g., RIS, EHR).
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation of PACS system configurations, processes, and procedures.
  • Generate regular reports on system performance, usage, and incidents.
  • Implement and maintain security best practices to protect systems and data integrity.
  • Lead or participate in projects related to PACS system upgrades, expansions, or new implementations.
  • Design and deploy scalable, high-performance systems, including hardware and software infrastructure.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior team members.
  • Participate in on-call rotation and respond to critical system outages or issues outside of regular business hours.
